Mahaa ganapatim …

This beautiful kriti by Muthuswami Dikshitar is set to Raga Nattai & Aadi tala & is one of the most popular kritis in concerts & any important occasion like marriages or grihapravesh & festivals. Muthuswami Dikshitar is considered one of the musical trinity of Carnatic music & was a South Indian poet, singer and veena player, and a legendary composer of Indian classical music. His compositions, of which around 500 are commonly known, are noted for their elaborate and poetic descriptions of Hindu gods and temples. He is also known by his signature name of Guruguha which is also his mudra and can be found in each of his songs.

I meditate on the supreme Ganapati who is worshipped by sages like Vasishtha, Vaamadeva and others.
He, the son of Lord Mahaadeva, is adored by Guruguha and shines with the brilliance of crores of manmathas or Cupids. He is the tranquil one and exults in the literary pieces like poems and dramas. He is fond of Modaka, a variety of sweet, and has a mouse for a mount.

Presenting “Vinayakaa“ our attempt to capture the beauty of this Carnatic kriti on canvas & an ode to the classical Tanjore style of painting. A beautiful hand painted form of Natana Vinayaka or Ganesha in a dance pose holding a damroo, flute & conch embellished with gold aari embroidery, pearls, red & green stones.
