S1 E14 - The Vimor Story
Episode 14: “Revival & Innovations to conserve Handlooms & sustain livelihoods - The Vimor Story”
अबnoरmal proudly presents “Touring Talkies”
Season 1 “Kanyakumari se Kashmir tak - Ek Sari-torial Safar”.
This weekend our Sari-torial Safar takes us on on a journey through various states of India as our expert truly believes & her work for 45 years is testimony to that belief that the “loom knows no language” & that “creativity & design know no borders”.
Our Guest Speaker today is Pavithra Muddaya of Vimor.
Vimor has 45 years of legacy in conserving textile heritage by empowering weavers & in design innovation to sustain livelihoods.
Pavithra’s early influences were her mother the very elegant Chimmy Nanjappa, Pupul Jayakar & Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay to name a few.
Hear her hold forth on Vimor’s belief that the larger cause of conserving Textiles & sustaining livelihoods was always far more important than holding on to a design conceived as their own.
“The more I let go the more creative I became” she says. That generosity of spirit, of giving, nurturing & holding hands is what Vimor has stood for in the last 45 years.
“There is enough room for everybody to survive & thrive” she says. Wise words coming from years of first hand experience living those values. A lot of myths & half truths on the provenance & design origins around Pooja, Molakalmuru, Simhasana & many more maybe busted or clarified as we hear her recount her journey.
