Sahir Ludhianvi’s classic poetry for Naya Daur (1957) is appropriate on the occasion of International Worker’s Day or Labour Day or May Day. A contemporary interpretation of that would be the coming together of people, virtually or physically, united for a common cause.

अबnoरmal salutes this “spirit of union” in our inimitable ishtyle using the traditional Warli artform. The Warlis are an indigenous tribe or Adivasis, living in mountainous as well as coastal areas of Maharashtra-Gujarat border and surrounding areas. Warli paintings are earthy and soothing. It takes you back to the painting’s provenance where you could almost smell the wet soil, feel the touch of the calloused hand that painted the background and admire meticulous brush stroke of the rural artist who created the master piece. Their extremely rudimentary wall paintings use a very basic graphic vocabulary: a circle, a triangle and a square.Their paintings were monosyllabic.
Human and animal bodies are represented by two triangles joined at the tip; the upper triangle depicts the trunk and the lower triangle the pelvis. Their precarious equilibrium symbolizes the balance of the universe and of the couple. The Warli use only white for their paintings. Their white pigment is a mixture of rice paste and water with gum as a binding. They use a bamboo stick chewed at the end to make it as supple as a paintbrush. Warli Painting is registered with a Geographical Indication under the intellectual property rights act.

Presenting the “Saathi Haath Badhaana” choli where we have tried to recreate the magic of hand painted Warli paintings portraying males & females holding hands together as if in a dance formation for a festival or ritual around a wide boat neck. A simple rangoli pattern around back neck & sleeves. & Tassles that have pillows hand painted on both sides with the male & female form completes this cute choli. True to the art form we have painted the figures in white on a brick red cotton fabric mimicking the rice paste & brick wall of the original art form.

Material: Pure cotton in Brick Red color. Colors may appear slightly different in a picture.

Sizes: The choli comes in standard ready to wear sizes 34 to 48 with a 2 inch margin inside for alterations.
Custom sizes are possible at an extra cost. Provided upon request.
